Oedipus the King

Written in 430 B.C., this classic Greek Tragedy which represents the beginning of organized theatrical activity as we know it today, opens the Fowler Center Theatre with a riveting interpretation.  Oedipus becomes king of Thebes after unwittingly killing his father and marrying his mother, thus fullfilling a phrophecy.  He eventually discovers what he has done, blinds himself, and is exiled. "...a spectacle of tragic proportions."
